Fennel Oil USP NF Grade

Fennel Oil is the volatile oil distilled with steam from the dried, ripe fruit of Foeniculum vulgare Mill. (Fam. Apiaceae).
NOTE: If solid material has separated, carefully warm the Fennel Oil until it is completely liquefied, and mix before using.

Solubility in 90 percent alcohol: One volume dissolves in 1 volume of 90 percent alcohol.
Specific gravity: between 0.953 and 0.973.
Congealing temperature: not lower than 3C.
Angular rotation: between +12 and +24 degrees.
Refractive index: between 1.528 and 1.538 at 20C.
Heavy metals: 0.004%.

DESCRIPTION
Fennel Oil occurs as a colorless or pale yellow liquid with the characteristic odor and taste of fennel. It is the volatile oil obtained by steam distillation from the dried ripe fruit of Foeniculum vulgare Miller (Fam. Umbelliferae).
Note: If solid material has separated, carefully warm the sample until it is completely liquefied, and mix it before using.
Function: Flavoring agent.

REQUIREMENTS
Identification: The infrared absorption spectrum of the sample exhibits relative maxima at the same wavelengths as those of a typical spectrum as shown in the section on Infrared Spectra, using the same test conditions as specified therein.
Angular Rotation: Between +12° and +24°.
Refractive Index: Between 1.532 and 1.543 at 20C.
Solidification Point: Not lower than 3C.
